WBS Presents on Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina to USGBC SC

USGBC South Carolina hosted a tour of the LEED-NC Certified Beach Club at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina on March 8th, 2018.  Susan Collins from Whole Building Systems, LLC presented on the LEED processes in place that helped the project meet its certification goals.  WBS is proud to have provided LEED Administration, Energy Modeling, Incentive Management, and Commissioning services on this project.

Susan Collins Earns WELL AP Credential

Susan Collins has recently earned her WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) credential.  WELL is the first building rating system dedicated exclusively to building impacts on the health, productivity and well-being of occupants.  Through this credentialing process Susan demonstrated mastery of the eight Concepts (similar to credit categories in LEED) found in the WELL certification system: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Fitness, Comfort, and Innovation.

Joel McKellar Earns Living Future Accreditation

Joel McKellar has recently completed his Living Future Accreditation, a credentialing  process for professionals developed by the International Living Future Institute which oversees the Living Building Challenge (LBC) certification program.   

Through a mixture of direct LBC project support, volunteerism, and educational programs Joel completed the 70 hours of training required to earn his accreditation.  Areas of emphasis in the training included material health and transparency research, net-positive energy and water design strategies, and social equity processes for design and construction.

He has extensive experience in sustainable design consultation and project management (7+ million square feet), commissioning (125,000+ sf), energy management and auditing (12+ million sf) and LEED and Living Building Challenge certification administration (5+ million sf).

WBS at 2016 NIBS Building Innovation Conference

M. Dennis Knight, PE, attended the annual National Institute of Building Science conference in Washington DC this week.  Mr. Knight is a member of a committee convening to write an Owner’s Guide for BIM (Building Information Modeling).  As the Chair of the BIM Multi-Disciplinary Task Group for AHSRAE, Mr. Knight is a liaison to NIBS and the Building Smart Alliance working to advance the adoption and integration of BIM in the AEC industry.

As Chairman of the ASHRAE annual Energy Modeling Conference, M. Dennis Knight, Founder and CEO of Whole Building Systems opened the event by introducing the prolific Dr. Story Musgrave, who gave the keynote address.  Musgrave who has had an extraordinary career including being a fighter pilot, a NASA astronaut, a trauma surgeon and has earned seven graduate degrees, encouraged the audience to seek out new opportunities and apply their life experiences to solve the complex issues we face today.

Whole Building Systems today announced that CEO M. Dennis Knight, P.E., has been elected a Fellow from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) by the board of directors, the highest honor they bestow. Being designated an ASHRAE Fellow is an honor that recognizes distinction in the science of environmental technology and advancement of the built environment. Whole Building Systems, a highly regarded engineering and energy efficiency consulting firm that serves commercial, governmental, educational, and historic preservation sectors, today announced that it recently completed an Energy Survey and Engineering Analysis of the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, located in historic Charleston, SC.

The findings of WBS' analysis were made public at the recent Sustainability & Southern Historic Preservation Conference, and M. Strategic Planning for Energy Management: Charleston County School District

WBS today announced that it is deeply engaged with the Charleston County School District (CCSD) to make its new and existing buildings more sustainable, safe, and energy-efficient.

CCSD has recently built many new schools based on high-performance energy criteria. Today, Whole Building Systems (WBS) is performing energy modeling and analysis to help CCSD to bring the existing, older schools up to the same high-performance levels of the new construction, while improving the indoor environmental quality in all facilities.
