INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Humans spend more than 90% of their time indoors.

Adhering to ASHRAE’s Epidemic Task Force recommendations, WBS is providing guidance for engineers, facilities management and building owners to improve indoor environments for schools, commercial office buildings and other spaces to help reduce the spread of infectious diseases, including Coronavirus.

Transmission of viruses - such as the flu - through aerosols (small particles of air) can be managed using HVAC systems. By installing effective equipment filtration and properly operating and maintaining systems, ventilation and air quality are improved, providing a healthier indoor environment for building occupants.

WBS works with clients to evaluate the current state of operation of a single building or a portfolio of buildings and provide guidance on the most effective way to make improvements that will result in better ventilation, effective equipment filtration and guidance on proper operation and maintenance. Our WELLCRx package of services includes the following and can be customized to fit the individual project:

  • Indoor air quality consulting for Covid-19 and other pathogens

  • Air quality testing

  • Material transparency and selection

  • Training and education

COVID-19 / INFECTIOUS DISEASE CONSULTING

Adhering to ASHRAE’s Epidemic Task Force recommendations, WBS is providing guidance for engineers, facilities management and building owners to improve indoor environments for schools, commercial office buildings and other spaces to help reduce the spread of infectious diseases, including Coronavirus. Transmission of viruses and other afflictions through aerosols (small particles of air) can be managed using HVAC systems through improving ventilation, installing effective equipment filtration and properly operating and maintaining systems to consistently provide a healthier indoor environment for building occupants.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY TESTING

WBS provides indoor air quality testing for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, various molds, formaldehyde and other particulate matter.

Testing is conducted at various sampling locations depending on the size of the project and compared with an outdoor control sample. WBS conducts the tests, coordinates with an outside laboratory to analyze the samples and summarizes the findings. Testing procedures comply with LEED and Green Globes certification requirements.

WATER TESTING

WBS provides water quality testing, which can determine the presence of inorganic and organic contaminants, public water additives and agricultural contaminants. Based on the source, WBS then offers recommendations on resolving the contaminations.

MATERIAL TRANSPARENCY AND SELECTION

WBS provides consulting on the selection of sustainable, healthy products and materials. Many products and materials have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) which can assist clients in understanding how their choices could benefit the health and well-being of building occupants. Whether your building requires EPDs for a specific certification (LEED, Green Globes, Living Building Challenge) or you simply want to make more informed choices, WBS can work with you to make the best selections possible.
