Owner's Design Standards / Guidelines / Project Requirements

WBS can assist you in creating or updating your Design Standards/Guidelines/Requirements so that AEs, contractors and subcontractors are designing and constructing your facilities to meet your standards for easier operation and maintenance.  Building and portfolio owners who effectively communicate their requirements during the design phases reduce change orders during the construction phase.  We interview key stakeholders (Capital Planning, Facilities Management and staff, building users, etc.) to understand key requirements.  WBS then documents the standards using the OmniClass Master Format codes, so that they are easily incorporated into the design and construction phases and contract documents.

Sustainability / Resiliency Policy Development

Across the nation, many towns and cities are recognizing the need to develop comprehensive Sustainability and Resiliency Plans to protect natural and cultural resources. WBS principals M. Dennis Knight and Susan Collins assisted the City of Charleston in the development of the Charleston Green Plan, a comprehensive set of recommendations for sustainable development, transportation, buildings, energy and education. WBS can help your community to create a Sustainability Plan that is collaborative, focused and most importantly actionable. Sustainability and Resiliency go hand in hand. The impact of climate change is also challenging communities to create plans for disaster mitigation and recovery. WBS can help you with sustainability and resiliency planning so that your community can be proactive in reducing the impact of climate change and to be better prepared if disaster strikes.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) Planning

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is being adopted by the AEC industry in order to increase efficiency and decrease cost to design, construct and operate high performance buildings.  BIM adoption requires learning new tools and changing existing workflows.  WBS assists companies in creating a Continuous Knowledge Creation (CRC) Roadmap® that begins by assessing the current company operations, technical platform and personnel skill sets and then develops a roadmap (strategic plan) to facilitate the adoption and knowledge creation necessary to become BIM proficient.  The results will allow the company to create, update and coordinate BIM models, develop BIM execution plans, maintain data quality control and manage projects more efficiently.
